On Tuesday I was asked to be a judge at our schools Science and Heritage Fair. There was 100 projects that were entered into the fair. Students from all grades participated and the topics ranged from Louis Riel, volcanos, hydroponics, to The Holocaust. It was a great experience to get to see other students in the school present their work, and see how proud so many were. For the Fair we were working in partners for the division II projects. They were given marks in 6 different areas and given a mark out of 60. Before lunch the awards were presented for first second and third place among the division II students.

The other PSIII interns and myself are beginning a spanish club that will start in March. The club is going to be for the grade 4 students at our school. We want to introduce the spanish language, traditions, and culture to the students. The club will be based around games and interactive activities. This week we have been meeting with admin and the grade 4 teachers to get all the information organzied for the students to take home. I have attached the permission form we are going to send home to get parent permission.
Yesterday I was given the opportunity to cover a grade 1 class as the teachers were in a collaborative meeting. I was excited to have more teaching experience in a different grade level. I began to teach the class a social lesson covering landmarks. It was interesting to see the difference between the grade one class and my grade five class. I also felt I had a very positive and successful lesson with the class. I was able to modify my classroom management techniques to keep the students on task and minimize their desire to story tell and keep the conversation content related. Overall the class was on task and able to identify different landmarks and their importance.
At my PSIII school we have introduced the program "one school, one book". As a school we are reading "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon". The school has provided a book to each family and staff member to read at home. The intent is for the student's parents to read aloud with their children each night. So far, we are about half way through the book and it has been really exciting to see the school coming together and getting excited about reading. Each day there has been trivia questions that are asked about the previous nights reading. We are also including some projects related to the story in different classes. This week I will be making dragon masks with the class during art class for them to wear during our closing assembly of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. This is the first time Agnes Davidson has done one school one book and has been quite successful thus far. Every morning students are talking about the book in the hall, wanting to read their book during silent reading, and reading ahead because they want to find out what is going to happen next. It has been great to be apart of this and see the student excitment about reading!
